Are small brands failing in 2026 because of the economy?
No.
Small brands are failing because the economy exposed their system.
For a long time, things were easy. Social media was easy. Sales were easier. A lot of brands were able to grow just by being aesthetically pleasing, trendy, and consistent enough to stay visible.
But that’s not enough anymore.
Now we’re seeing brands with large followings shut down. And that alone should tell you something deeper is going on. (Including mine, but that’s a different conversation.)
The economy didn’t create these problems. It exposed them.
A lot of small brands have weak business structures, weak product decisions, weak strategy, and no real systems in place. When everything was flowing, that didn’t matter as much. There was a cushion. Now that cushion is gone.
Consumers are more intentional with their money. People aren’t buying just because something looks good anymore. If your brand is more trendy than it is functional, you’re going to feel it.
The beauty industry is also oversaturated. There are too many brands doing the same thing with no real differentiation. And if we’re being honest, most brands aren’t even priced correctly, let alone positioned correctly.
So when sales slow down, it’s easy to blame the economy. But in a lot of cases, it’s the foundation of the business.
So how do you survive in 2026?
You need positioning. You need alignment. You need intentionality in how your product, brand, and messaging all work together. You need systems that actually support growth instead of depending on constant posting and hope.
Because posting more isn’t going to fix a brand that isn’t built properly.
Your business isn’t failing. It’s just not built correctly yet.
And that’s something that can be fixed.
If you’re still blaming the economy after reading this… I can’t help you.
But if you’re ready to actually fix your brand, that’s where I come in.
